Frente Nacional de Pueblos Indígenas – FRENAPI (National Indigenous Peoples' Front), San José, Costa Rica: $15,000 in June 2011 (via sponsor: Servicio Paz y Justicia de Costa Rica) to develop and strengthen capacity and leadership among the indigenous peoples of Costa Rica to build processes of autonomy and defend human rights, as part of the promotion of a culture of peace.
Radio Comunitaria Indígena Huave 94.1 FM, San Francisco del Mar, Oaxaca, Mexico: $3,000 in May 2011 (via sponsor: Unión de Comunidades Indígenas de la Zona Norte del Istmo, A.C., UCIZONI), for equipment and training for this indigenous community radio station, with the goal of strengthening a culture of respect for human rights, autonomy and care for natural resources.
Red Ambiental Loretana, Iquitos, Peru: $15,000 in March 2011 for efforts to educate civil society in Peru about threats to the ecosystem and how these threats affect communities.
Servicio Paz y Justicia en México-Morelos, Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico: $19,000, including $4,000 in April 2011 for the "Stop the War in Mexico" project and $15,000 in May 2011 for general support. The "Stop the War in Mexico" project involves support for a nonviolent national march against the current war in Mexico and distribution of research materials about the human cost of the war, in order to make visible the enormous social demand for an end to the war; shed light on the crimes of this war; and build and strengthen ties of cooperation with other interested organizations. The general support grant goes for peace education and promotion of human rights; research and dissemination of information about social conflict and militarization in Mexico; and support for active nonviolence and civil resistance, including participation and collaboration with the newly-emerging National Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity (Movimiento Nacional por la Paz con Justicia y Dignidad).
